Obama Plays The Race Card…Again

We know what kind of campaign they’re going to run. They’re going to try to make you afraid. They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. They’re going to say you know what, “He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. Did I mention he’s black?” -Barack Obama

Guess what Obama? You are the only one who is constantly playing the race card. There have been no racial attacks on you ( I am not talking about small, racist blogs) from any campaign or campaign surrogate. You are the only one making an issue out of your race, because it serves your purposes. I doubt there will be any racist attacks from McCain because it will plain and simply backfire, as it should. You know, Senator Obama, there are PLENTY of reasons to not vote for you and PLENTY of issues to attack you on. No one needs to bring hateful, racism into it, except you that is.

Obama Hypocritically Blasts McCain Over Flooding Legislation

From CNN:

At issue is the 2007 Water Resources Development Act, a $23 billion bill that funded levee and flood control programs along with dozens of other projects across the country, including Everglades and other habitat restoration, emergency water supply storage, lock and dam security, and water quality improvement.

The bill passed Congress, with Obama in favor and McCain opposed, although neither took part in the final vote.

The measure was vetoed by President Bush as too expensive, but that veto was overridden, a first for the president. Neither McCain nor Obama participated in the override vote.

The Senate votes were 91-4 for the first vote and 79-14 for the override.

During the initial debate in the Senate, Obama voted against an amendment, sponsored by Feingold and co-sponsored by McCain and others, that would have established a commission to prioritize water projects, with flood control at the top of the list.

Thirty-five Republicans joined 34 Democrats in rejecting the amendment. Although he was a co-sponsor, McCain did not vote on the amendment. McCaskill, who was not a co-sponsor, voted in favor of it.

So in fact, Obama has done LESS than John McCain about this issue. Also, McCain was not in the Illinois state legislature (a state that is flooding) but Obama was. What exactly did he do to help his state? Nothing, yet he rails against the senator from Arizona, yeah makes a lot sense to me. But hey that is his whole m.o. Do nothing, then complain about others doing nothing. Oh yeah, and say change A LOT!

Obama Tells Women To “Get Over It”… Guess Again

At a meeting between Obama and the Congressional Black Caucus Thursday he said:

“However, I need to make a decision in the next few months as to how I manage that since I’m running against John McCain, which takes a lot of time- If women take a moment to realize that on every issue important to women, John McCain is not in their corner, that would help them get over it”

Rep. Diane Watson, D-Calif, a Clinton supporter, was bothered by the last three words,”Get Over It”.

Yet again Obama opens his mouth and inserts his foot. I guess women are just supposed to be grateful that he even allowed Clinton to campaign at all. I mean, why should any women be upset at the level of sexism displayed by Obama, his campaign, his adoring media and supporters?

What Will It Take??

As we all have heard by now Obama has become the first candidate ever to refuse public financing. Now his rationale for this is that the “system is broken”. Well this is the exact same system that was in place when he pledged in writing to accept public financing should his opponent do the same. John McCain has opted in. By the way, Clinton refused to pledge that she would opt in.

So this is for all the Obama supporters….what exactly has changed since November? The system is still the same, the 527s existed then, he was aware of them, why is he going back on one of the MAJOR promises of his primary campaign? Also what will it take for his supporters to realize this man is a POLITICIAN? He will no more change Washington than he will keep his promise to use public financing. He has lied repeatedly throughout this campaign, yet this has gone largely unnoticed and uncommented on.

Obama Campaign Bans Muslim Women

The Obama campaign banned 2 Muslim women who were wearing head scarves from the stage at his rally. This goes against everything he “says” he stands for. Remember he wont stoop to the “silly” political games, well what do you call this?? These were 2 supporters of his that were treated awfully because of their religion and culture. I guess Obama is not the uniter he has been running as.

Was there no one left in Washington?

Sen. Obama hired Sen. Clintons former campaign manager today. This is a huge slap in the face to Sen. Clinton and just goes to show that YET AGAIN Obama does not get it, he needs Clinton supporters and this is not the way to go about it.

Maybe it is a good thing that we are finally seeing the real Obama, who is not above all the “silly” political games and will bring change. This smacks of the old school, eff you politics that he claims to hold in utter disdain.

Wake up people, he is no different than any other politician! He has and will play dirty to get what he wants!

Poor Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama is learning the truth about politics. You campaign for your husband, you ARE fair game. Now I do not like the racism that is on display with Fox’s “Baby Mama” comment (what do you expect from FOX News?) that is what happens in a political race. She seems to think she should be exempt from any attacks fair or not because why?? Oh right, she is the “chosen ones” wife. I forgot, they can say whatever they want about the other candidates but they are off limits. Remember her statement about how she didn’t know if she could vote for Hillary because she couldn’t keep her “house in order”? Was that fair to comment on the womans marriage? No, but it didn’t stop Michelle. For a couple who are supposed to be so smart and intellectual you would think she could think before she opens her big mouth. And if she doesn’t think first? Well, learn how to take  it and not cry like a baby!

R.I.P Tim Russert

Tim Russert passed away today at the age of 58. While I may not always have agreed with him during this past primary, he was indeed a giant among journalists. Here are a few remembrances from friends and colleagues:

“Tim’s passing is a loss not only to his family and many friends, it is a loss to good journalism and to our country. Tim, first and foremost, was devout in his faith and deeply devoted to his family. He loved his country with a passion and became a classic example of the ideal American journalist. Tim had become an important part of our political process. He will be especially missed in this historic presidential election year. Tim Russert was a beacon of quality journalism. At a time when quality journalism is in increasingly short supply, Tim Russert was a leader for what is best in American journalism. He was tough but fair, pulled no punches, played no favorites. As an interviewer, he had few, if any, peers.

” – Dan Rather

“We are heartbroken at the sudden passing of Tim Russert. We have lost a beloved member of our NBC Universal family and the news world has lost one of its finest. The enormity of this loss cannot be overstated. More than a journalist, Tim was a remarkable family man. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Maureen, their son, Luke, and Tim’s entire extended family.

” – NBC Universal president Jeff Zucker

“Tim was the best of our profession. He asked the best questions and then he listened for the answer. We became very close friends over the years. He delighted in scooping me and I felt the same way when I scooped him. When you slipped one past ol’ Russert, you felt as though you had hit a home run off the best pitcher in the league. I just loved Tim and I will miss him more than I can say, and my heart goes out to his son, Luke, and his wife, Maureen.

” – CBS Washington News Chief and “Face The Nation” anchor Bob Schieffer

“We were stunned and deeply saddened to hear of the passing today of Tim Russert. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Maureen, his son Luke, his father who we all have come to know as Big Russ, his extended family and all of his many friends and colleagues at NBC who have suffered a tremendous loss. Always true to his proud Buffalo roots, Tim had a love of public service and a dedication to journalism that rightfully earned him the respect and admiration of not only his colleagues but also those of us who had the privilege to go toe to toe with him. In seeking answers to tough questions, he helped inform the American people and make our democracy stronger. We join his friends, fans and loved ones in mourning his loss and celebrating his remarkable contribution to our nation.” – Sen.

Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton

“I am very saddened by Tim Russert’s sudden death. Cindy and I extend our thoughts and prayers to the Russert family as they cope with this shocking loss and remember the life and legacy of a loving father, husband and the preeminent political journalist of his generation. He was truly a great American who loved his family, his friends, his Buffalo Bills, and everything about politics and America. He was just a terrific guy. I was proud to call him a friend, and in the coming days, we will pay tribute to a life whose contributions to us all will long endure.” – Sen.

John McCain

“The US and the world have a lost a great journalist, interviewer and author. He was an original and will be greatly missed.

” – former Vice President Al Gore

“We all I think have heard the news about Tim Russert. I’ve known Tim Russert since I first spoke at the convention in 2004. He’s somebody who overtime I came to consider not only a journalist but a friend. There wasn’t a better interviewer in TV, not a more thoughtful analyst of our politics and he was also one of the finest men I knew. Somebody who cared about America, cared about the issues, cared about family. I am grief-stricken with the loss and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family. And I hope that even though Tim is irreplaceable that the standard that he set in his professional life and his family life are standards that we all carry with us in our own lives.” — Sen.

Barack Obama

“No one could see Tim in a room and not smile. He brought so much joy and curiosity and sheer vitality to all our lives. As a journalist, he would set out like a great explorer. You couldn’t wait to see what he discovered every day in the new world. He was a defining American newsman. Love of country, love of family poured through him–onto the screen, into the work, into stories at dinner, into the little chuckle that reminded us —aren’t we lucky to be here in this big life.

” – ABC’s Diane Sawyer

“Tim projected vitality — always excited about the stories he covered and intrigued by the people he interviewed. That’s what made him so good, and his passing so hard to absorb. His competitors — just like his co-workers — held Tim in the highest of regard.

” – ABC “World News” anchor Charlie Gibson

“Tim loved everything about politics and journalism — because he believed in it. Every day he brought Washington home to his viewers and made all of us better. My thoughts and prayers are with his family — especially Maureen, Luke and his father Russ.

” – ABC Chief Washington Correspondent George Stephanopoulos

“There is no one who knew Tim, and that includes millions of Americans who felt they knew him too, who isn’t deeply shocked and saddened by his death. Tim was everyone’s idea of what a journalist should be and he made us proud. He interviewed me just one month ago for his weekly television show and much of our conversation had to do with his love for his father, Russ, and his son, Luke. My heart goes out to his wife, Maureen, and to Luke and Russ.

” – Barbara Walters

“Broadcast journalism lost one of its greats today. Tim Russert was a giant in our field – a standard-bearer of journalistic integrity and ethics. His masterful interviews and round-table discussions are legendary. This is a tragic loss for journalism and for all who were privileged to know him.

” – Walter Cronkite

“Tim Russert was a gentleman and giant, not just in politics and journalism, but in life. And through that life, he gave us all a model worth emulating. With a reasoned voice, a sharp mind and a fair hand, Tim took the measure of every Washington official and all those that sought to be one. He was a great journalist and an even better friend. His passing is a tragic loss for us all, but especially for the family he loved so much. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tim’s wife Maureen and his son Luke.” – Sen. Edward M.

Kennedy

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

You have got to be kidding me!!

This is from CNN.com today:

KULA, Hawaii (CNN) — Let’s all breathe a collective sigh of relief, shall we? Now that we’ve got our nominee, Hillary can get some rest, Obama can read his daughters a bedtime story, and the rest of us can relax knowing our relative peace won’t be shattered by another primary-related explosion.

Goodbye Reverend Wright and Bosnia tarmac snipers. Goodbye bitter working-class voters and hard-working white people. See you in November John King and the magic CNN map.

But what now?

Obama has gracefully accepted the victory banner, and a lot of Hillary supporters, especially women, are walking off the field as if they’ve lost a war. I understand their frustration, but the truth is they didn’t lose, not by a long shot. Their candidate is stronger than ever, with 17 million votes under her belt, and the public discussion about the role of gender is more nuanced and compelling than it has been in decades.

The next woman candidate will have a better shot at the White House because of the tireless efforts of Hillary Rodham Clinton.

But with a Democratic house divided, now is the time for healing, and this can only happen if Hillary’s staunch female supporters let go of the reverse-sexist ideology that women are inherently better, wiser, and more compassionate leaders.

They will have to acknowledge that sometimes the best woman for the job is actually a man — if it’s the right man. Obama’s vote against the war, marriage to his female mentor, outstanding record on reproductive choice and a host of other progressive issues, and his uncanny ability to inspire people all over the world suggest he’s just that.

It is time to turn the page on myopic gender-based Feminism and concede that while patriarchy is real, so is female greed, dishonesty and corruptibility. It’s time to empower the feminisms embodied by millions of women and men who care about everyone, including, but not limited to, women.

These are the feminists who wanted the first Clinton’s welfare reform to include real jobs for women, with real wages and real benefits. They wanted trade agreements like NAFTA to empower female workers in other countries, not make them easier to exploit. They also want to exhaust diplomatic means before threatening to bomb entire civilizations to dust in response to hostile challengers to U.S. supremacy.

These people — male and female, young and old, black, white, yellow and brown, self-identified feminists and adamant rejecters of the term — move from a place of passion, hope, and yes, pragmatism.

They realize Obama will need to assemble a stellar team to move his vision forward. And they plan to hold him accountable for his positions on all of it: racism, sexism, socio-economic disparities, the environment, education, health care, a living wage and any other obstacles to the ideals of equality upon which this great nation was founded.

Clinton supporters aren’t the only ones with work to do. I spoke at Harvard a few years ago on the necessity of ending divisiveness and relying more on the human capacity for openness as a baseline for true progress. This position is necessary not only in feminist circles, but in the primal fight or flight mechanism of our own minds.

As angry as some Obama supporters might be, as disheartened as we may feel, the only way out is to believe in the power of human beings to rise to the moral imperative.

Judging by the state of the world, we may not get another chance.

Oh I know the “reverse-sexism” (which by the way would just be sexism) has been so awful. I feel so bad that Obama, McCain, Edwards and the rest of the male candidates had to answer questions about their suits, hair, makeup and so forth. I dont know how they have held up as well as they have.

Killer Tomatoes?

McDonalds, Taco Bell, Burger King and some other fast food restaurants have stopped serving tomatoes due to the recent Salmonella outbreak.

Now I have only one question? Do they reduce the price of the items since they charge more for tomatoes? You order the Big N Tasty and that is all tomato and lettuce. That should be about .99 on a good day.

Now yet ANOTHER reason to stay away from fast food. Cant they leave our dollar value menus alone? Whats next, artificial cheese product will take away my double cheeseburger?
